At Des Sol 4×4, we are thrilled to introduce the latest addition to our team, Stan! As our new Brand Manager, Stan will be spearheading sales and be your point of contact for anything Des-Sol or Jimny Related. His extensive experience and passion for off-roading make him a perfect fit for our dynamic team. Feel free to contact him at stan@des-sol.co.za
Let’s get to know Stan a little better through a quick Q&A session.
1. Welcome to Des Sol, Stan! Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got into the world of 4×4 vehicles?
Stan: It all started when I made an impulsive decision to buy a 2.8 Defender 90 for an upcoming trip to Mozambique in 2013. My wife gets grumpy when I tell this story as I ended up selling the Defender to Wild Earth TV before our holiday.
2. What excites you most about working with aftermarket accessories for the Suzuki Jimny?
Stan: The quality and constant pursuit of perfection in every product excites me.
3. Do you have a favourite aftermarket accessory that you think every Suzuki Jimny owner should have? Why?
Stan: Talking from experience, definitely the long-range tank. I almost ran out of fuel on the way to Bloemfontein in a Gen 4.
4. With Des Sol expanding to other vehicles soon, which vehicle are you most excited to work on next, and why?
Stan: I am torn between the LC79 and Hilux.
5. Can you share a memorable story or experience you’ve had while working on a 4×4 vehicle?
Stan: I remember pressing out castor bushes on a rusty set of Land Cruiser radial arms and maxing the pneumatic press while hiding around, waiting for things to go BANG!
6. What do you think sets Des Sol’s products apart from other aftermarket accessory providers?
Stan: The quality and constant pursuit of perfection in every product.
7. How do you stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in the 4×4 aftermarket industry?
Stan: Instagram and YouTube.
8. What’s the most epic off-road adventure you’ve ever been on? Tell us about the location and your experience.
Stan: Doing Sani Pass in our old Gen 3 just after it had been snowing.
9. Do you have a dream off-road destination that you haven’t visited yet? What makes it so appealing to you?
Stan: I definitely want to do the Karoo Eco Trail and camp under the stars in the vast landscape.
10. When preparing for a long off-road trip, what are your top three must-have accessories or gear?
Stan: A cold beer for when we reach the destination, a tyre gauge, and a Makita with the toolset.
11. What’s the toughest terrain you’ve ever driven on, and how did you tackle it?
Stan: I drove through a swamp of cow dung in Himeville and got bogged instantly. I had to find rocks and pack a route out while being covered in cow poop.
12. How do you balance safety and adventure when planning an off-road trip?
Stan: Always make sure you have a buddy with a winch and plan enough stops to take time and enjoy the journey.
13. Do you have any tips for beginners looking to get into off-roading with their Suzuki Jimny?
Stan: Just get out there and enjoy it! It’s a great way to meet new people and see our amazing country.
14. What’s the one piece of advice you wish someone had given you when you first started off-roading?
Stan: 33’s aren’t big enough.
15. If you could take any celebrity on an off-road adventure, who would it be and why?
Stan: Gordon Ramsey for food at camp, and he is a pretty funny guy.
16. What’s your favorite song or playlist to listen to while driving off-road?
Stan: Definitely Abba!
17. Do you have a nickname for your 4×4? If so, what is it and how did it come about?
Stan: The FJ is called Grogu because it just wants to eat fuel all the time.
18. What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever seen or experienced while off-roading?
Stan: A guy’s car almost caught alight from bad workmanship on his winch fitment.
19. If you could only take one accessory with you on an off-road trip, what would it be and why?
Stan: My small folding braai kit, you always need a fire!
20. What’s your go-to meal or snack when you’re out on an off-road adventure?
Stan: Biltong for sure.
21. Can you share a funny or unexpected moment from one of your off-road trips?
Stan: We stopped off on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere and one of us happened to have a golf club and a few balls, so we started a driving range.
22. What’s one question you’d like to ask our Des Sol community about their off-roading experiences?
Stan: If you could change one thing on your Jimny, what would it be?
23. Do you have any exciting projects or ideas you’re looking forward to implementing at Des Sol?
Stan: I am definitely keen to see which path would be the easiest to integrate into the business, but I want to see some LC79 radial arms.
24. What’s your vision for the future of Des Sol in the 4×4 aftermarket industry?
Stan: To replicate what Des Sol has done in the Jimny market for other platforms and become a leading manufacturer for 4×4 accessories in Africa.
25. How can our followers stay connected with you and keep up with your adventures and projects?
Stan: My Instagram is out.of.office_za.
Stay tuned for more updates and adventures from Stan and the rest of the Des Sol 4×4 team. We are excited to embark on this journey with you, our loyal community, and continue to bring you the best in 4×4 aftermarket accessories.
