Suzuki Jimny Gen 4 Differential Breather Kit

The Jimny Gen 4 differential breather kit relocates the front and rear differential breathers to a higher position inside the engine bay. This setup helps reduce the chance of water entering the differentials when the vehicle crosses deep water.

Why Extend the Differential Breathers?

Differentials become warm while the vehicle is moving. However, cold water can cool them quickly during a deep crossing. The air and oil inside then contract, which can create low pressure inside the housings.

As a result, a differential may draw water through a low factory breather or worn oil seal. Water can then mix with the gear oil and reduce its ability to protect the gears and bearings.

The Suzuki Jimny differential breather kit moves the breather outlets to a cleaner and higher location in the engine bay. Therefore, the differentials can draw air from above the vehicle’s lower underbody area.

Front and Rear Differential Coverage

The kit provides separate breather lines for the front and rear differentials. Both hoses run to the anodised-aluminium manifold inside the engine bay.

This central setup creates a neat installation and makes the breather outlets easier to inspect. Furthermore, it keeps them away from mud, water and dirt around the axles.

No Drilling or Tapping Required

Some breather installations require users to drill or tap the differential housings. This process can allow metal pieces to enter the oil if the installer does not clean the housings correctly.

Instead, Des Sol’s coupling design connects to the existing OEM breather locations. Consequently, the installer can fit the Jimny axle breather kit without cutting new threads into either differential housing.

Before installation, compare all supplied components with the fitting instructions. Also, check each hose and fitting for damage before fitting the kit.

Installation and Maintenance

Follow the Des Sol fitting instructions carefully or ask a trained installer to fit the kit. Route each hose away from the exhaust, sharp edges, moving suspension parts and rotating drivetrain parts.

Also, leave enough free hose for the axles and suspension to move through their full range. After installation, check every connection and make sure the hoses do not contain sharp bends.

Furthermore, inspect the differential breather kit after off-road trips and during normal services. Replace any crushed, cut, loose or heat-damaged hose before the next water crossing.
